The Leymebamba Museum safeguards more than two hundred mummies and their funerary offerings, discovered at the Lake of Condors in 1996.
Following this chance discovery, the Mallqui Center provided support for the enormous task of preserving this invaluable archaeological collection for posterity. These mummified remains survive as evidence of how the ancient Chachapoyas venerated their ancestors. It is an impressive collection.
