According to local legend, Tipon was one of the gardens that Wiracocha ordered to be built. Today, archaeologists believe that it was a center for the worship of water. The site is composed of twelve agricultural terraces, flanked by enormous, finely finished stone walls.
The site’s water system, consisting of channels, fountains and waterfalls, is a feat of Inca engineering, and it is still used by local people. Whether it was a garden or a place of worship, Tipon is a place well worth visiting.
