In Chiclayo and its surroundings, surviving as witnesses to an extensive ancient kingdom, there are major archaeological sites which visitors should not miss. This region was occupied by rulers who governed northern Peru centuries ago, and the grandeur of their society can be glimpsed today in the pyramids of Tucume and the administrative centers built in the middle of the desert or in fertile valleys.

The Lord of Sipan is one of the finest examples of the wealth of these ancient societies: this ruler’s tomb and funerary offerings are conserved at the Royal Tombs Museum. In addition, this region offers visitors other major sites to explore, including Sican and Chotuna, and it is home to other modern museums and their priceless collections.
