Peru’s Amazonas region was the cradle of one of the country’s most important pre-Inca cultures. Nestled at the top of a mountain amid rugged scenery is the Kuélap Archaeological Complex, with its great stone outer wall soaring to heights of 20 meters in places, demonstrating the power once exercised by the culture that built it.

The fortress contains 505 dwellings, with a further 420 dwellings beyond the complex. Most of these structures are round.

Until recently, Kuélap could only be accessed on foot. Today, it can be reached in 20 minutes, thanks to a modern cable car that leaves from Nuevo Tingo.

However you choose to get to this imposing fortress, an unforgettable adventure amid the clouds awaits you.
