In November 2011, the Amazon River, through a massive vote via the Internet, was chosen as one of the new seven natural wonders of the world. There were 454 attractive nominees, of which only 28 finalists fought for a privileged location, since the prestige that comes with being on this list is vitally important for various companies related to the tourism sector, as well as for the award-winning locations/sites/places.
Thus, the Amazon River - considered as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) -, occupied a special place in this contest, making its way among the other contenders. It has been 10 years since that election and its designation was greeted by the organization that held the event.
“Hello, Peru. My congratulations on this very important tenth anniversary of the vote to elect the Amazon as one of the new seven official natural wonders of the world. It has been the largest voting campaign historically in the world and you won one of the seven places,” said Jean Paul De La Fuente, CEO of New7Wonders.
The Amazon River for all
