And with good reason! Cusco was chosen as one of the 25 most popular destinations on the Travelers' Choice 2021 list, a segment of the specialized website TripAdvisor, which has collected comments, anecdotes and opinions of travelers from around the world during 2020, a rather complicated year for all adventurers.
The locations with the best reputations appear in a series of lists on this prestigious website, in which Cusco is included in the "Popular Destinations" section. Cusco shares this honor with cities considered to be some of the world's major tourist destinations, such as London (England), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Rome (Italy) and Paris (France), to give just a few examples.
This takes on even more significance as Cusco is the only location in the whole of South America that appears on this list. The Dominican Republic, New York (United States), Cancun and Playa del Carmen (both in Mexico) are the destinations in Central and North America that appear on the list. The rest of the list is made up of locations in Europe (10), Asia (9) and Africa (1).
"Inca splendor and Andean baroque coexist in the cobblestone streets of Cusco, whose most emblematic landmarks are the palace of Qoriacancha and the church of Santo Domingo that flank the Plaza de Armas. In this high-altitude melting pot of Amerindian culture and fusion, you will find extraordinary textiles, lively summer festivals and archaeological wonders," they write about Cusco on the TripAdvisor website, where they also recommend visiting Sacsayhuaman, the Mountain of Seven Colors and the Humantay Lake.
However, there are endless activities to do in Cusco. In fact, you have to visit the Machupicchu Historic Sanctuary, a cultural and natural heritage of humanity. Also, if you enjoy trekking, explore the trails to Ausangate or the magical villages that make up the Sacred Valley. A city tour through the historic center of Cusco is a must, as well as tasting its delicious cuisine.
