  • The leading prestigious travel publication released its Best in Travel list, highlighting the Kuélap cable car and the air connectivity of the region

The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ) reported that the northern region of Peru made it to third place in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2019 list, which includes the top 10 countries, cities, regions and places of interest to visit.

“Northern Peru is a place full of contrasting geography and historic sites. The new cable car located in the spectacular Kuélap fortress and the increase in flights from Lima have made this region easier than ever to visit”, announced Lonely Planet's South American destination editor, Bailey Freeman.

In the best regions in the world category, where northern Peru finished in third place, the New York’s Catskills took second place, while Italy’s Piamonte region came first.

Every year the list of nominations for the best trips is put together by Lonely Planet’s vast community of editors, researchers, locals and influencers; a panel of judges then decides and creates the final ranking. This results in a select list of destinations that have unique, convincing and up-to-date reasons to visit in the coming year, as well as travel trends to consider.

OTHER AWARDS

The attention of the world is now focused on Northern Peru for its undeniable beauty and history, making it a favorite among travelers. Proof of this is that it has been recognized as one of the best places to travel in recent years, according to US magazine Conde Nast Traveler.

Kuélap was also been named one of the “Coolest Destinations” by the Wall Street Journal in its most recent list of top destinations to visit in 2018. It was also been voted Best Far & Away - Overseas Attraction by the readers of National Geographic Traveler in the United Kingdom.

The BBC has in addition aired documentaries on the Amazonas region which have been seen by millions. The New York Times also listed Kuélap as one of its 52 Places to Go in 2018.
