Peru's natural, gastronomic, and cultural wealth continues to make an impact around the world. On this occasion, the country won the prestigious 2024 National Geographic Traveler Readers Awards, awarded by this important publication in the field. This is the second consecutive year that this award has been awarded, in which Peru was positioned as one of the fifteen winners and five special mentions, among 75 finalists from all over the world.
The international publication also highlighted Peru's natural, cultural and gastronomic wealth, starting with must-see destinations for tourists from all over the world, such as the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley and the Qhapaq Ñan or Inca Trail in Cusco; the spectacular Peruvian Amazon, one of the most impressive natural territories for the variety of local flora and fauna; the enigmatic Lines and Geoglyphs of Nasca and Palpa in Ica, a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO; and much more to see.
In addition, each of the regions in Peru also stands out for its incomparable culinary culture, ranging from typical dishes that are the heritage of ancestral cultures, as well as dishes that reflect the incomparable variety of inputs that are grown in this sacred land. We can go from marine delicacies such as cebiche, whose knowledge and techniques have been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO; high Andean rituals represented in the Pachamanca, a tradition that is also an offering to Mother Earth; the mixture of flavors of Arequipa's gastronomy, today a trend around the world, the exquisite jungle dishes ranging from patarashca to the emblematic juane; Pisco, Peru's flagship distillate, among many others.
This is an important distinction for Peru, which competed in this category with the nations of Egypt, Colombia, Morocco and Uzbekistan. The South American country spreads its awe-inspiring history, tradition, and legacy with visitors from all over the world.
