- Expo 2020 Dubai kicked off the month of Wonders of the World and Natural Wonders with the opening of 'Wonder Markers' at the Peru Pavilion.
- Peruvian gastronomic proposal was inspired by Machu Picchu and the Amazon.
The World Expo which takes place in Dubai, one of the seven United Arab Emirates, has decided - in February - to pay tribute to the New Wonders of the Modern World and the New Natural Wonders.
In 2007, the international organization New7Wonders, world authority on Wonders election, was in charge of the global voting campaign in which 600 million people chose the New 7 Wonders of the World, where is the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (Peru). Similarly, this platform nominated the New 7 Wonders of Nature, one of them being the Amazon (Peru shares location).
With the aim of supporting the visibility and importance of the Wonders, both Expo Dubai and New7Wonders, in coordination with the nations that host these cultural and natural jewels, have arranged the installation of a Wonder Marker, a tourist signpost that indicates the distance and official location of the Wonders, with the intention of connecting each other, making a unique and memorable link between these nations and the rest of the world, within the framework of Expo Dubai.

Peru Pavilion was chosen to kick off the month of wonder celebrations, as the country boasts both a Wonder of the Modern World and a Natural Wonder. In this regard, the new signs were unveiled in the presence of dignitaries and authorities attending Expo Dubai, as well as the president and founder of New7Wonders, Mr. Bernard Weber, and the director of New7Wonders, Mr. Jean‐Paul de la Fuente.
"Peru is unique. It has one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu, and shares one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the Amazon, whose river is born in Peru. And now, to celebrate it, at the historic Dubai World Expo, we have two Wonder Markers that connect with each of the wonders, 14,400 km to Machu Picchu and 14,090 km to the beginning of the Amazon River, "said Jean-Paul de la Fuente.
To celebrate the inauguration of the Wonder Markers in the Peru Pavilion, two culinary tastings were offered to the authorities and representatives of the assembled nations. The first was inspired by Machu Picchu, the gastronomic culture of Cusco and the superfoods of the Sacred Valley; the second, in the Peruvian Amazon with the aim of celebrating its cultural and natural diversity.
