Exploring the Andean Baroque route means visiting the peaceful villages of Huaro, Carnicunca and Andahuaylillas, going back in time and seeing how art was used during the colonial period to evangelize indigenous people. The beautiful painted murals that adorn local churches depict religious scenes in which images of the saints coexist with richly-attired Mamachas, and their magnificent carved wooden altarpieces are covered in gold leaf.

Seeing these jewels of colonial-era art is more than an aesthetic experience: it makes us all witnesses to a history of conquest and faith.
