La Libertad is home to the surviving remains of temples, pyramids and entire cities such as Chan Chan, where the imposing walls of what is known as the largest mud brick city in the Americas are decorated with high relief designs.

Take a virtual tour of the Chan Chan site museum here.

At the south of Trujillo is the Huacas de Moche Archaeological Complex, made up of the Huacas del Sol and la Luna, marvelous structures that once soared above a major urban center filled with dwellings, plazas and avenues, the vestiges of which speak to the complex nature of ancient Moche society.

At El Brujo, one of the most important and ancient archaeological complexes in the area, we find Huaca Prieta, Huaca Cortada and Huaca Cao Viejo, where the famous mummy of the Lady of Cao was discovered.

This is a richly fulfilling experience.
