Awards and recognition ceremony held at Expo 2020 Dubai rewarded the design of our pavilion, the only South American country in the event to win a Gold Award.
Peru successfully ended its participation in Expo 2020 Dubai by receiving the Gold Award for Best Exhibition Design within the pavilions built by the nations participating in the World Expo, in Category B (between 1750 m2 and 2500 m2), thanks to its concept “Timeless Peru”, an exciting synthesis of Peru’s historical, multicultural and megadiverse richness.
The Awards Ceremony, held in Jubilee Park of Expo Dubai, was organized by the International Exhibitions Bureau, an entity that supervises and regulates the operation of World Exhibitions since 1931.
The awards were divided into five different categories according to the size and type of pavilion; thus, the Official Participants' recognitions awarded three aspects: architecture and landscape (for pavilions built by the participants), exhibition design and interpretation of the theme.
“The winners of the Official Participants Awards were chosen by an international jury made up of nine international and Emirati experts, who made two visits to each of the national pavilions, in January and March 2022. On the eve of the closing ceremony, these awards celebrate those who have made significant contributions to the success of the World Expo,” said Antoine Bourdeix, director of communications at the BIE.
Organized under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, Expo 2020 Dubai was the first global exhibition to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. Expo 2020 Dubai is the largest global meeting held since the start of the pandemic, uniting 192 countries around the world and receiving more than 22 million visitors since it opened its doors.
The 2500 meters of built area of the Peruvian pavilion were visited by influencers, Emirati television, and international reporters, who were pleasantly surprised by the compendium of culture and biodiversity it presented, highlighting the reports by CNN, Khaleej Times and Gulf News standing out the valuable concept of our pavilion and our cultural and musical expressions transmitted by the Ayacuchana guitar and the scissors dance.
The Abu Dhabi National newspaper highlighted Peru in its article “Expo Dubai: five fantastic pavilions that you should not overlook” and the Emirates Woman magazine included Peru in the list of the ten most beautiful national pavilions of the exhibition; recognition that was recently validated by the international vote called by the magazine Exhibitor, where the Peru Pavilion was the awarded as the best experience of the Expo. Likewise, our country led positive comments among Latin American countries on the official Expo Dubai mobile app.
Among the most outstanding moments of this Peruvian participation are the inauguration and ribbon cutting of the Peru pavilion, which included the reception of the World Travel Awards 2021; the presentation of the exhibition “The mochicas, sovereigns of the desert” dedicated to the Lord of Sipan, which showed exquisite replicas of his jewels to 235 thousand visitors; and the National Day of our country where all the cultural diversity, infinite wealth and legacy of our ancestors were exhibited at an event where renowned chefs, artisans and musicians gathered leaving the name of Peru up high.
Peru's participation was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) through PROMPERÚ, and had the participation of talented Peruvians, as well as the support of DP World, Pisco 1615, Flo Trading, Modenart Peru, Terracota and Lab Adolf Finseth.
