In an exciting milestone for the Peruvian Navy, the majestic sailing training ship B.A.P. Unión reached the Italian shores on December 5, marking the eighth port of call in its Foreign Instruction Voyage (VIEX) 2023-2024. This significant achievement comes after the impressive vessel crossed the Suez Canal for the first time, solidifying itself as a symbol of Peruvian naval prowess in international waters.
The arrival of the B.A.P. Unión at the port of Taranto was greeted with a spectacular cannon salute as it entered the inner harbor of the Great Sea. The cadets, in their impeccable uniforms, took honored positions, paying tribute to the historic journey of this ship. In a gesture of reciprocity, the Italian Navy responded to the salute from the iconic 15th-century Sant'Angelo Castle.
The welcoming ceremony that followed the impressive salute was a warm and meaningful event. Officials from the Peruvian embassy and distinguished Italian civil and naval authorities came together to welcome the B.A.P. Unión and its crew. This meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation and friendship between the two nations, as the sailboat will stay in the Italian port for two days.

B.A.P. Unión Achieves Boston Teapot Award – 2023
This majestic vessel has won the prestigious Boston Teapot Award - 2023 in the thrilling international tall ships regatta, carefully organized by Sail Training International. It earned this recognition by covering 1261 nautical miles in 124 uninterrupted hours, from the historic port of Callao to the exotic Tahiti.
The Boston Teapot Award highlights the merit of this iconic Peruvian vessel, emphasizing not only its nautical feats but also its harmonious and imposing structure.
Thus, the B.A.P. Unión becomes a floating ambassador, bringing with it Peruvian culture and naval excellence to every port it visits, leaving an indelible mark of pride and camaraderie, reaffirming Peru's prominent role on the global maritime stage.
