Good news for Peru. The sailing school ship B.A.P. Unión has won the Boston Teapot Award - 2023 in the international tall ships regatta promoted by the English organization, Sail Training International, in recognition of having covered a distance of 1261 nautical miles during 124 uninterrupted hours, on its journey from the Constitutional Province of Callao to Tahiti in French Polynesia.
The challenge was to cover the greatest distance in nautical miles during 124 uninterrupted hours, with a maximum of two stops, and within the period from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023.
This recognition is awarded to the world's tall ships, and this time, to a sailing ship that allows the crew to master sail trimming and rigging techniques, maximizing wind efficiency. It also encourages the development of skills such as teamwork, leadership, and discipline.
The recognition is in merit of the 1261 nautical miles traveled, during 124 uninterrupted hours.

The mentioned award will be presented by the organization during the Annual Tall Ships Conference to be held on November 18 in Dunkirk, France.
About B.A.P. Unión's Journey
The ship departed on June 18, 2023, from the Naval Base of Callao to circumnavigate the globe in ten months, visiting 22 ports in 16 countries, with a stay of 2 to 4 days in each. B.A.P. Unión will arrive at the port of Callao on April 22, 2024, after having sailed 66 000 miles around the world.
Inside the vessel - considered the largest and fastest sailing ship in Latin America - the "Peru House" has been established onboard as an exhibition platform. It promotes tourist destinations and showcases a diverse range of Peruvian offerings in export products and services.
The journey of B.A.P. Unión represents a historic milestone for Peru, as 169 years have passed since the last Peruvian ship sailed the seas around the world.
