It is unquestionable that people eat very well in Peru. Not for nothing, it is one of the preferred destinations to be visited by tourists for a constant interaction with its diverse and millenary gastronomy. Thus, international awards are not strange to this reality and constantly acknowledge the taste and creativity of the most renowned establishments in the Inca country. The last award was given by the “The World’s 50 Best” organization through its Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants campaign.
In this occasion, a special voting was carried out and the score obtained in the last 8 editions were added (awards granted since 2013) to the list named “The Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2013-2021: past and future. To the delight of diners who love Peruvian seasoning, three Peruvian restaurants are in the top 5 of the list. Central, by the renowned chef Virgilio Martínez, ranks the first place. Maido, by the chef Mitsuharu Tsumara, and Astrid y Gastón, by the spouses Gastón Acurio and Astrid Gutsche, are in the second and fourth place, respectively.
“We have to see it as a recognition to the importance that Latin America has in the world’s food today. The fact that Central takes the lead of this, thrills me and makes me proud”, mentioned Virgilio Martínez to EFE.

The final list
However, Central, Maido and Astrid y Gastón are not the only awarded restaurants. Within the Latin America’s 50 Best places to eat, there are other six Peruvians restaurants. They are: La Mar (13), Osso (17), Rafael (20), Isolina (24), Fiesta (39) and La picantería (46). The idea of making this list, as mentioned by the heads of The World’s 50 Best, is to celebrate the gastronomy in all around the region and to provide the people from around the world with a guide of restaurants and culinary recommendations to visit.
The list was published in the business magazine William Reed Business Media, based in the United Kingdom. This digital media company not only gives credit to the effort of the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, but they also extended the award until having a final list with 100 establishments where 16 restaurants are Peruvian.
