Pisco, the emblematic Peruvian flagship distilled, has once again received praises from international media. ¡Hola! magazine, one of the most important publications in Spain and Latin America, dedicated an article to this Cultural Heritage of Peru, highlighting its origin, quality, versatility, and history.
"Saying Pisco is saying Peru" is one of the messages emphasized in this publication, reflecting its importance for the country. The article also provides information about the spirit in the colonial era, when the grapevine - the plant where grapes grow - was introduced to Latin America. Additionally, the Spanish magazine, which has over 16 million users, emphasizes that the city of Pisco, in the department of Ica, is the birthplace of this beverage.
The versatility of Pisco is due to the wide variety of grapes cultivated in Peru. They are divided into aromatic (Moscatel, Italia, Torontel, and Albilla) and non-aromatic (Quebranta, Negra Criolla, Mollar, and Uvina). From these ingredients, three types of Pisco can be produced: pure, mosto verde, and acholado.
Cocktails to enjoy
The article also refers to and invites readers to try different Pisco-based cocktails, such as the acclaimed Pisco Sour, "a cocktail with a legion of fans worldwide"; the refreshing Chilcano; the Capitán, considered an elegant cocktail with roots in Puno; and the aromatic Pisco Punch.
Peru is a country where gastronomy goes beyond the senses. In addition to its globally recognized traditional dishes, there is a route dedicated solely to this flagship beverage: the Pisco Route. Visitors have the opportunity to learn more about traditional vineyards, the methods of preparing this distilled spirit, and to taste it.
