The World Food Travel Association dedicates every April 18th to the pleasure of traveling and getting to know cultures through the local gastronomy they have to offer, a great opportunity to enjoy Peruvian food!

The perfect day has arrived to do the two activities we love the most: traveling and eating. This April 18 is World Food Travel Day, promoted by the World Food Travel Association (WFTA), which celebrates how and why we travel to experience the world's unique culinary cultures. On this special day, the WFTA invites travelers, restaurants, hotels, and other travel industry businesses to celebrate the world's food culture.

Why is local food so important when you travel?

Traveling is an experience that you must live with all your senses. To get to know a new culture or a place in depth, you must immerse yourself in its streets, customs, music, and, of course, its food. Not for nothing is it said that "the best way to get to know a place is through its gastronomy". And even if you have tried traditional foreign food in a restaurant in your country, there is nothing like rediscovering the flavors of the world's gastronomies than going to the places where those dishes originated. You will realize that there is so much to know and taste!

It would be impossible to name all the dishes of each destination, but we can give you some examples of dishes that you must try in your travels through Peru.

Must-try dishes in Peru

If we talk about the south of Peru, we can name delicious dishes based on the typical ingredients of the area. As, for example, the rocoto relleno, is a dish that you can find anywhere in the country, but none will taste better than tasting it in its native Arequipa. After touring its traditional streets, the monastery of Santa Catalina, its main square, and its countryside, go to a picantería in the city of Arequipa and you will taste its unique and unbeatable flavor. Another southern option is to travel to Ica to visit Huacachina, the Paracas National Reserve, and taste its delicious sopa seca con carapulcra (dry soup with carapulcra), a classic that completes the experience of visiting this seaside place!

If we talk about the north of the country, we cannot fail to mention its beaches, warm weather, and exquisite food. We have, for example, the cebiche of black shells, typical of Tumbes. We recommend you try it after a day visiting the Mangroves of Puerto Pizarro, having enjoyed the beautiful views and beaches. Another delicious dish representative of the north, in Trujillo, and that you must try when you travel there is the shámbar, a wheat soup made with a base of vegetable stew.

If we go to the east of the country, we will find a hot tropical jungle, waterfalls, rivers, and biodiversity. The must-try dishes on this trip are juane, tacacho with jerky, patarashca, and refreshing drinks made from Amazonian fruits. So, to complete your Amazon adventure, discovering animals and beautiful landscapes, enjoy the dishes they have to offer you in a typical restaurant, and you can really live the Peruvian jungle with all your senses.
