In times of immobility, museums are using the virtual universe to continue enriching the culture of citizens. One of them is the National Museum of Peruvian Culture, which opens its doors for free and virtually to the delight of its visitors.
This is a brilliant opportunity to share with the family the traces of an ancient past, from the comfort of home.
Located in the Center of Lima, the Museum of Peruvian Culture has been operating since 1946 thanks to its founder, Doctor Luis E. Valcárcel. This place has more than 8 thousand pieces on exhibition, classified according to their origin.
Among its most representative sections are: Arte popular de las regiones del Perú (Popular art from the regions of Peru) and Arte y culturas Amazónicas (Art and Amazonian cultures). Thanks to the reinvention of the museum, new generations will be able to access these important collections that are the fruit of the creativity of the first Peruvians.
During the virtual tour you will be able to appreciate in detail the textiles, ceramics, clothes, utensils and other emblematic objects of the inhabitants of the coast, sierra and Amazon of Peru. The Ayacucho altarpieces (retablos from Ayacucho) stand out, for example, with their miniature representation of Andean festivals. Also, the carving on the stone of Huamanga, the keros and chipped mates (mates burilados), as well as the works in silver.
These works show that Peru is a diverse homeland, but with a unique history.

Peru is the cradle of the oldest civilization in America: Caral. It is also the epicenter of one of the most advanced pre-Hispanic cultures: The Incas. All this historical wealth inspired generations of artists and artisans who captured this ancestral knowledge through their inventions.
Without these elements, it would be difficult to interpret the past and project the future. Ancient art is the best testimony of the identity of a country. That is why the importance of visiting museums as part of a constant learning of the living legacy of our ancestors.
