The City of Eternal Spring
The main attraction in La Libertad is Trujillo, the capital of the region. This city is the starting point for tourist activities in the historical side of the area. Besides, here, you will find all the comforts of a modern city. A stroll through the historic center is necessary before exploring its surroundings. So, do not miss visits to the Main Square, the Cathedral, and the San Agustin and Santo Domingo Churches.
Once you get used to the city, it is time to take the guided tours that will show you the ancient history of La Libertad region. Thus, you can embark on expeditions to the Archaeological Complex of Chan Chan (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986), the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, the Moche Countryside, Huaca Arco Iris, and the district of Huamachuco, where you will find the Archaeological Complex of Marcahuamachuco and the archaeological site of Wiracochapampa, which join the Huari and Huamachucho cultures.
Do you want to leave the city behind for a moment and boost your energy? Visit Otuzco, a city located in the highlands of La Libertad, which offers calm and peace. Here, the time seems to have stood still; its friendly citizens will be willing to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your stay. You will witness privileged views of its landscapes, as it is located in the middle of an inter-Andean valley.
A special mention deserves the Rio Abiseo National Park.
