The video, adapted to the current situation, is part of PROMPERÚ's digital promotion strategy for incoming tourism in the Chinese market.
The inspirational Peru video, developed especially for the Chinese market to attract potential travelers when the time to travel is right, reached a total audience of 7 million 623 thousand users of the main social media of the Asian country, informed the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ).
This excellent performance placed PROMPERÚ among the top five tourism offices in the world with the greatest impact on WeChat, the most important social media in China. Furthermore, Peru is the only country of Latin America within this Top 5, and to have a notable audience on leading Chinese digital platforms such as Weibo and Douyin.
It is important to highlight that the main online travel agencies in China such as Ctrip and Tuniu joined the promotion of the video, directing their messages towards potential long-distance travelers to motivate them to visit to our country when international travel resume.
In addition to being part of the campaign organized by Ctrip, the largest online travel agency in China, to encourage Chinese tourists to visit their dream destinations, Peru was the only Latin American country that participated in this promotional action together with different international tourism offices.
The Peru video was adapted to the current situation as part of PROMPERÚ's digital promotion strategy for inbound tourism in the Chinese market, which has been implemented for two years to attract high-spending travelers, mainly the growing segment of independent travelers used to traveling to long-distance destinations.
It is also worth remembering that last year our country won gold in the Marketing category of the Chinese Tourist Welcome (CTW) awards, one of the most important tourist recognition of the Asian country, for the efforts invested to promote the destination.
The importance of the chinese travel market
China was consolidated as the main outbound market for trips to the world since 2012, growing at an accelerated rate in recent years: it increased from 4.5 million to 150 million in the period 2000-2018, with an average annual growth of 16%. In that sense, the average Chinese tourist spending reached $ 229 billion in 2019.
Chinese tourists are increasingly interested in visiting exotic long-distance destinations and Peru is in the top 3 of trips to South America. The cities of Shanghai and Beijing, in addition to the province of Canton, are the regions with the highest number of Chinese visitors to Peru.
