There is no doubt that Machu Picchu is one of the most impressive and enigmatic places that exist in the world. Until today, the Inca sanctuary hides secrets and mysteries like its construction process and its architectural purpose, which have been studied by historians. Why did the Incas build a citadel on the top of a mountain? How did they manage to mobilize and mold the huge stones? These are some of the questions in place today.
For this reason, on October 20, National Geographic will broadcast a special episode about Machu Picchu, located in the heart of Cusco. In this program, the experts will analyze its myths and truths, and reveal part of its mysteries. The explorer Albert Lin and his research team travel the citadel and the Sacred Valley of the Incas, assisted by LiDAR technology and 3D scanners, in order to unearth many of the secrets that this wonder of the modern world hides.

The episode dedicated to Machu Picchu is part of a series of chapters prepared by the prestigious international channel about world historical sites, which can be seen across the continent. On October 6, the following chapters were broadcast: Tesoros Perdidos de los Mayas: Secretos Revelados (Lost Treasures of the Mayas: Secrets Revealed), Tesoros Perdidos de Egipto: Vidas Secretas (Lost Treasures of Egypt: Secret Lives) and Lo Mejor de Secreto en los Océanos: Especial Naufragios (The Best of Secret in the Oceans: Shipwrecks Special). On the other hand, La Rebelión Inca (The Inca Rebellion), Tesoros Perdidos de Egipto: Mujeres Guerreras (Lost Treasures of Egypt: Warrior Women) and Secreto en los Océanos: Lagos Misteriosos (Secret in the Oceans: Mysterious Lakes) will be broadcast on October 13.
The program about the Inca citadel is titled Lo mejor de ciudades perdidas: Machu Picchu Extraordinario (The Best of Lost Cities: Extraordinary Machu Picchu) and will be seen along with two other episodes: Imperio perdido de la Isla de Pascua (Lost Empire of Easter Island) and Lo mejor de secretos en los océanos: especial puerto (The Best of Secrets in the Oceans: Special Port).

About the sanctuary
Considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, it would have been under the mandate of the Inca Pachacutec that the construction of Machu Picchu began. Its walls were raised in the middle of a tropical forest, at the top of a mountain.
Machu Picchu has temples, palaces, terraces and walls; in addition to a varied flora and fauna. In 1983 it was recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural and Natural World Heritage Site.
